Though Mount Kenya summit can be reached in 4 days as per the below itinerary, we strongly recommend an overnight acclimatization at the base in Nanyuki town. This can be arranged for at an extra fee.
NAIROBI/SIRIMON/JUDMIER CAMP(OLD MOSES) 3-4Hrs, 9km (860m)
Depart Nairobi at 7.30 AM to Nanyuki town for lunch,taking about 4 hrs proceed to sirimon gate 1 hr 2,440m.
From the gate follow the track as it winds uphill through the forest which becomes heath land after about 3 hrs,About 3 1/2hrs from the gate the track veers right to judmier camp 3,300m for dinner and overnight . Lunch(L) ,Dinner(D)
JUDMIER CAMP/SHIPTON CAMP 6-7 HRS (900M)
After breakfast,follow the track uphill,fork left at the junction,After 1 hr from old Moses camp,the track crosses Ontulili river,go rift countouring through Moorland and crossing Liki north and countinue uphill to Mackinders valley from where the panoramic views are up the valley towards the main peaks.Dinner and Overnight at Shipton camp (4,200m) B,L,D.
Mount Kenya is 5199m high.It second highest mountain In Africa .It is snow capped peaks and can be seen in miles,It has three peaks Batian 5,199m,Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m.The forest surrounding the mountain support a large variety of wildlife such as leopards,lions,elephants,buffaloes,monkeys,antelopes,rock hyrax,zebras,elands,giant forest hogs also various species of birds like vultures,sun bird,eagles among others.
Mt.Kenya has three main routes that penetrate the forest and the Moorland,The routes are Sirimon route,Chogoria and Narumoru route.
