DAY 2:  LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, you are met by our tour guide/driver, who will deliver a short safari briefing.

You will be driving to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive with our picnic lunch.

Upon your arrival at Manyara, you will be welcomed by the Great Rift Valley Escarpment view and fun makers’ baboon at the entrance of Manyara in large groups.

We will travel through the agricultural and fresh produce market town of Mto Wa Mbu, which is situated next to the entrance of the Lake Manyara National Park.

The town is a souvenir hunter’s paradise, harboring thousands of souvenir salesmen – ready to pounce at your slightest invitation.

The Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most dramatically located African wildlife areas, consisting of a massive but shallow soda lake (covering two-thirds of the park) at the foot of the Great Rift Valley’s western escarpment.

The park’s varied habitat attracts a wide variety of animals; including one of Africa’s densely populated herds of the African elephant, famous tree-climbing lions, as well as large flocks of flamingos, attracted by the algae in the lake.

We will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park and do two exciting morning and afternoon game drives, in search of the wildlife and birdlife that Manyara hosts along with a view of the famous hot spring known as “Maji Moto”. After game drive of Lake Manyara you will go for a Maasai culture tour.

East Africa Tours - Maasai Tour

The Ultimate Maasai Village Experience

Tanzania is a melting pot of around 125 peacefully co-existing ethnic groups.

Of these, the tribe you’re most likely to have heard about is the Maasai.

The Maasai have a rich cultural tradition and this includes crafts such as beautiful beadwork and intricate hairstyles that articulate the wearer’s position and stage of life.

This immersive, fascinating two-day tour gives you an in-depth experience of authentic Maasai culture and traditions.

You’ll spend a day and overnight with the Maasai people in the 100% traditionally built Maasai Village.

Here is where you’ll get to know Maasai art and dance, spiritual customs, medical and herbal practices, crafts, and, of course, their hearty and tasty cuisine.

You’ll be shown around the village with its teeny-tiny museum, and you’ll enjoy a herbal walk in the bush, guided by Maasai herbal specialists.

Spend the evening in deep cross-cultural conversation around the campfire before you drift off to sleep in a traditional Maasai hut.

This wonderful cultural excursion will immerse you in the fascinating ancestry of these noble people.

At the Maasai village playing host to your tour, you will have the opportunity to meet with a Maasai family, visit a traditional boma, the village huts, which are made of cow dung and clay plastered over stick frames, and perhaps venture to a local school or clinic.

If you would like to extend your half-day adventure and turn it into a full day’s exploration, you can experience a day in the life of a young Maasai or, for authentic interaction, watch a bloodletting ceremony.

It is an extraordinary reality how the Maasai people live in the heart of the bush, with warthogs foraging and elephants trumpeting just on their periphery.
